Hit The Beaches

If you’re not one for historic sites or shopping, the beach is going to be your best friend! Lucky for you, Wilmington has plenty of gorgeous beaches in the surrounding area that give you ample access to the Atlantic.
Wrightsville Beach
Most visitors and locals adore Wrightsville Beach.
It is the perfect place for a laid-back summer day, or to escape the cold of other parts of the country later on in the year. With a popular pier, lots of local eats nearby, and proximity to some of our favorite hotels, it is hard to go wrong with a beach day (or 2, or 5) here.
The only downside? The accesses from the parking lots and street parking tend to be quite long. Not to worry, though, because that’s where we come in! Our Sherps are here to help you carry your things to and from your perfect beach spot, without the hassle that adds stress to an otherwise beautiful day.

Venture Further Out of Downtown

Downtown and the beaches are amazing, but if you have your car at the ready, we recommend taking a day trip to Airlie Gardens and/or the New Hanover County Arboretum.
Airlie Gardens
How can it get better than strolling through blooming azaleas, shimmering lakes, and centuries-old oaks? Our answer… it can’t!
Covering 67 acres, this Gilded Age estate is one of Wilmington’s most unique historic places. The star of the show, the Airlie Oak, has been around since 1545, and the gardens also house the first butterfly house in the region. Stop in at random, or schedule your visit to align with art installations featuring international artists, live music events, and the magical holiday Enchanted Airlie pop-up.
New Hanover County Arboretum
Comprised of seven acres of stunning seasonal gardens, this site is open year-round. Plenty accessible thanks to their paved pathways, this is perfect for little ones in strollers and those in wheelchairs. Expect to explore features like their water garden, a Japanese garden, and a children’s garden. The Gift shop is open seasonal hours, and experts are always on-site to give gardening advice.
